Being Matured

“Big girl already, you must be matured. Happy Birthday, my dear.”
“Yea ok, thanks mom.”

That was my mom’s way to wish me during my birthday. Every year the similar old sentences repeated till I knew when she is going to say that. I thought and thought … and then thought some more. She might mean more than what I knew. A simple sentence, but with lots of theory to understand.

Soon I came to the age that I need to pursue my tertiary education. The result from local university was out and I was lucky to be given a chance to enter local university, getting the course I want. I can just say that I am in luck. There’s a proverb saying that one can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs. Leaving my family behind, I went to Kelantan- one of the East Coast state in Malaysia.

My family gave me full support and accompanied me there. When they drove away, the surrounding is so quiet. I heard nothing as if temporary deaf except for the buzzing sound. The big campus of mine fit nothing else except me alone. My sense of direction even left me alone. Helplessly, I stood still watching their car moving further and further away from me every second.

“Mom, Dad. Please come back…” I said in an undertone, having my tears wetting my face. I helplessly allow my tears trickled down my cheeks while forcing myself to have a broad smile at my parents’ car.

It was my first time being here, being alone in a place without my parents’ accompaniment. It was my first time feeling so lost because I knew no one here. Lots of first time in my life happened here. They have put me into no choice but to have kept all my misses to my family and home and faced the reality happening in front of me.
Here I experienced different culture. I had to take the initiative to be friendly and got to know friends as no man is an island. I had to adapt to the surrounding by making new friends. I learned to be cooperative and worked together in groups. New environment, new lecturers, new friends, new home, will all these shape a new me?
Soon, lessons starts, and lesson ends.

Looking in surprise, I said: “Oh my! So fast. Finish a chapter?
“It’s like that. Don’t be surprised, Yong.”
“Lots of things to study for this chapter, but lecturer just took an hour to finish up the chapter,”
“It is the university style of teaching. No more spoon feeding. We have to read it ourselves. Sigh…”

Can I really do it? Self-discipline is so much needed here. I missed my family members. I missed my bed. I missed my hometown. Culture is so much different here. It is quite hard to find Chinese cuisine here. Furthermore, I am a vegetarian, even harder for me to hunt for food.

“My dear, no worries, you can do it.”
“But, I have lost my confidence.”
“Believe in yourself. I always believe my daughter is able to cope it.”
“Ok. I will try first.”
“ But, remember, do not stress out yourself. Do what you can. Ok?”
“Ok, I miss you so much, Mom. Thanks a lot. I …”

Pom! The slam of the door woke me up from my daydreaming. Lecturer arrived. I missed my family too much till I thought of them even during lessons. Assignment here, class assessment around the corner. Not enough time. Stress level maximum. Argh… I need a break.

After being here for almost 3 months, I adapted to the situation. I finally understood the meaning of matured. Not only to be grown up in physically, but also grown up in mentally where I am being responsible of what I need to do. The obstacles I faced have stacked up my experience like building blocks where I am able to face more things and settle them by myself. They shaped me into a more mature me.

Smiling to her, I said: “Mom, I am big girl already. I am matured enough to settle things in my own way. Happy birthday, mom!”

Sleeping Beauty

Once upon a time, in a kingdom, there was a King and Queen, desperately wanted a child. The King ruled the country wisely and their land prospered. Years after years, there was still no news about the King having a child. Even the people in the country also started to worry about their King. Soon, came a young gentleman, he told the King that the King will have a child soon. After that, the young gentleman transformed into a frog and jumped away.

The incident makes the King curious about what the gentleman says. Was it true? The King and Queen pray every day without fail, hoping their wish will come true. At last, a baby princess was born. It was the best news for the entire kingdom. Birds were happily chirping. Joy and melodious songs were heard at every corner of the country. To celebrate this great blessing, the King declared a holiday to celebrate princess one year old. All his subjects were invited to the castle to pay homage to the baby princess.

The baby princess was named Aurora which means dawn in Latin as her birth has filled in their life with sunshine. In the kingdom, there were 13 fairies. 12 of them were nice and kind as they helped their people around, but there was a smelly fairy that being disliked by the other fairy as she always take revenge on those that did not respect her because of her body odor.

The birthday celebration was being held in the castle. All the fairies were invited except the smelly fairy as the King did not want his child to see her so that she was protected from her smelliness. The 12 fairies came and each of them gave a blessing to the princess. Some bless her with beauty, some bless her with wisdom and even slim and tall. Suddenly, dark clouds entered the castle and surrounded the castle. The fairies knew the smelly fairy was here. Everyone started to close their mouth and nose with their hands and rushed out of the castle.

“I was angry for not being invited. You did not respect me, King Stephen!”
“I am so sorry. There were too many people to be invited. I left you out. I shall….”
“No excuses! You shall be punished!”says the smelly fairy angrily with echo.

She just appeared like a lightning in front of the cradle of the baby princess, using her wand, pointing at the princess.

“Princess Aurora, you shall be blessed with beauty and wisdom. You will be adored by all known you. But, on the day of your twentieth birthday, you shall prick your finger with a spindle and die…”says the smelly fairy with an evil laugh.

The whole castle was covered with silence. The silence soon broke by the weeping of the Queen. The Queen was so worried about her princess. No one knows how to persuade the Queen.

The twelve fairy stepped out and bless the little princess, “A spindle should give you a prick. But, you will end up in a long long sleep maybe a thousand years…” She doubted and continues. “ … I mean a hundred years till your true love and gave you a hug. The spell shall break.”

Soon, it was Princess Aurora twentieth birthday. She was grown up having beauty and wisdom as she was blessed. She looked slim and tall too as if she was going to fly away when a strong wind blows. But, she didn’t run away from her fate to be prick by a spindle. She fell asleep instead. Once she fell asleep, the whole castle also fell asleep.

***
“A sleeping beauty is waiting for you. Your hug will help her to break the spell. Follow your instinct and you will find her. Good luck, young man.” The fairy just disappeared after talking to him.

He woke up from his dream, thinking it would not be possible to be a real dream. He must have watched too much fairy tales together with his niece. How could this happen in this 21st century? He ignored his dream and climb up to the bed as he fell off from his bed due to his dream. Then, he slept again.

He works as an archeologist, searching for artifacts to find out about ancient. He never believed in fairy tales, he only believed in science. The dream did not affect his daily life. He continued his research at his excavation site.

Suddenly, his student came running. “Prof, we found something.”

While busy collecting artifacts, he accidentally hit on a stone and fell down deep, a deep deep black tunnel that never ends. He would not dare to open his eyes and continue sleeping. Later, he was unconscious. When he woke up, he found himself in another tunnel. His curiosity grew. He continued walking deeper into the tunnel. He came to a door. It was a door full of sculpture with high quality of art work.

“Is anyone here?”

He laughed at himself for questioning such a question. The door opened by itself and he found a girl lying on the concrete bed. He fell in love with her beauty. He thought of his dream and brings up his courage to hug the girl. When he tried to hug her, he fails. He could not move her at all. Maybe she was there too long till stuck with the bed. He was so angry and kicked the bed. Suddenly, the bed raised her up and he managed to give her a hug.

His hug has broken the spell. The people in the castle awake. The princess awake and gave him a sweet smile. The people in the castle were happy that their princess found their true love. Alexander, the archeologist and Princess Aurora get married and they lived happily ever after with long hours of sleeping everyday.

Although Alexander has gone through a time machine, Alexander would not mind to stay together with Princess Aurora in her century and not try to get back to his century. As long as he lived happily with Princess Aurora, he will be grateful. It was been too long for the princess to wait for her true love. Maybe it was the fairy that brought them together.

Fairy Tale

Fairy tale Subject

Fairy tale castle

Fairy tale main character

Fairy tales

Fairy tale is a place where we put in our imagination. Kids enjoy fairy tale because of the beautiful character and castles. They would dream of themselves being the princess and being saved by the prince.

I enjoy reading fairy tales as the ending of the story will always be happy. It is different from the realistic world. We might not be able to be in the winning side always. Win and lose is normal in daily life.

Reading fairy tale is like a bus stop for us to rest and enjoy the beautiful innocent world in the fairy tale after facing the challenges in life.

Stories of Mooncake Festival

Mooncake festival is soon here. I would like to share some stories about the Mooncake festival that I read from the net.

Lady Chang Er - The time of this story is around 2170 B.C. The earth once had ten suns circling over it, each took its turn to illuminate to the earth. But one day all ten suns appeared together, scorching the earth with their heat. The earth was saved by a strong and tyrannical archer Hou Yi. He succeeded in shooting down nine of the suns. One day, Hou Yi stole the elixir of life from a goddess. However his beautiful wife Chang Er drank the elixir of life in order to save the people from her husband's tyrannical rule. After drinking it, she found herself floating and flew to the moon. Hou Yi loved his divinely beautiful wife so much, he didn't shoot down the moon.

Chang Er

The Mooncake - During the Yuan dynasty (A.D.1280-1368) China was ruled by the Mongolian people. Leaders from the preceding Sung dynasty (A.D.960-1280) were unhappy at submitting to foreign rule, and set how to coordinate the rebellion without it being discovered. The leaders of the rebellion, knowing that the Moon Festival was drawing near, ordered the making of special cakes. Backed into each moon cake was a message with the outline of the attack. On the night of the Moon Festival, the rebels successfully attacked and overthrew the government. What followed was the establishment of the Ming dynasty (A.D. 1368-1644). Today, moon cakes are eaten to commemorate this legend.

Learning to relax

Holiday is a time to relax. I enjoyed all the activities that I loved to do. Watching television, shopping and sleeping are everyone's favourite hobby. Why do we need some holidays?

Lots of my friends said that holidays are the time where we rest so that we are prepared for longer journey. The obstacles and challenges waiting for us in front need lots of energy and time for us to overcome. I think it is really true. Without holidays, we will not feel energized and enthusiasm to do work. Stress will accumulate if we do not take a rest.

So, to make sure my battery level is charged well, I will stop doing whatever homework that I have in these few days and enjoy my holidays to the max. Relax.. Relax.. Relax..

Nature

My sister suddenly called me.

"Hey sis, come and have a look."

My curiosity grows as I look at her excited expression looking at the box in front of her. Inside my heart, kept on questioning what was it that she wanted me to look it. She must have found something that she likes to see since she looked so happy after her discovery.

I walked closer to her and her discovery surprises me. Hmm.. That is really cute. I think they must have falled off from the table and could not get out from the tall box. Such a tiny fellow as long as our little finger with pointed nose and a long tail seems cute to me. They looked at me with pity faces as if they were asking me to help them.

Wait a second. " Ermm... what was that beside them?" I asked. The colour of the skin is pink reddish blood. Oh, it is their baby. What a warming and loving scene I witness. The mammalian mice mother breastfeeding her newborn. She care so much about the baby. As we try to give them some biscuits to them, they were jumping up and down surrounding the baby, thinking that we are trying to hurt the baby. It is natural where parents will protect their children no matter what happens.

It is nature.

Aren't they cute?
